Journey to a Masterpiece

Guest speaker, Dennis Connors
May 2nd, 6:30pm
Hosmer Auditorium
Free with Museum admission

The Everson Museum is marking a year-long celebration for the 50th anniversary of its I. M. Pei-designed home – an architectural masterpiece which opened in 1968. The history of how the museum evolved, physically, from borrowed space in a downtown office building in 1897 to its landmark tour de force is a fascinating story. It is one woven through local history touching on a James Street family fortune, controversies of post-World War II civic renewal, and the vision of dedicated patrons. Local historian Dennis Connors will explore that legacy in an illustrated lecture covering that 70-year passage which eventually created the Everson Museum edifice that we treasure today.
