Voted one of the best art classes by the Syracuse New Times, Mix It Up! offers young artists an immersive experience, through the exploration of a variety of media, such as sculpture, painting, and drawing and through guided tours of the galleries. Participants have a chance to draw inspiration from viewing our permanent collection and our upcoming exhibition, Prendergast to Pollock. Limited scholarships available.

Yoga with heART

Your first class is Free!
Open your heART space in this alignment-based yoga class, where you can connect with your body and the art that surrounds you. Long-time yoga instructor Dara Harper will guide you through proper form and precision of poses. All skill levels are welcome. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat. Some yoga mats are available on first come, first served basis.
The Tiny Tour
Stay after class for a few minutes to enjoy a mini tour led by an Everson docent, highlighting one work from the Museum’s permanent collection.
About the Instructor
Dara has been teaching yoga for 16 years and specializes in pose-precision and body alignment. Dara has studied with many great teachers including John Friend, the founder of Anusara Yoga, Douglas Brooks, Desiree Rumbaugh, Sianna Sherman, Doug Keller, and Tom Myers, a Rolfer and author of the book Anatomy Trains. These will be strong classes for any student: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Students will all be cared for and challenged simultaneously with active stretching, weight-bearing poses, such as downward facing dog and plank, and breathwork. Dara is attentive and patient and loves to watch her students blossom.

Painting Waterfalls and Streams in Pastel

Explore the sensational subject of waterfalls and running streams with this award-winning instructor who will demonstrate the subject in a variety of styles. Working from your photos or sketches, emphasis will be on design, light effects and value contrast, color, and expressive application of pastel. Create translucent watery effects, reflections, flowing water, wet and dry rocks, moss, foliage, and more. Demonstrations, at-easel assistance, critiques, lots of painting time and fun! All levels welcome from beginner through advanced. Materials list provided.

In this 2-day workshop learn the basics of the enameling process of kiln fired glass and metal from artist Pam Steele. This immediate process will allow you to design and fire a pair of earrings and pendant, to put on your own necklace or chain to wear home. Students can try their hand at cutting shapes from sheet metal. The open studio atmosphere will be hands-on fun with personal attention. All skill levels welcome, materials provided. Art Blast! Stop Motion Animation (Ages 8-12)

Learn the basics of stop-motion animation during this special session of Art Blast! Summer Art Camp. Students will work in teams to create stories and build characters and sets for original short stop-motion films. Help design a mini fold-and-go puppet theater to stream films and end the week with a family preview and reception. Taught by educator Kristan Brinley & SU Professor Gail Hoffman. Materials provided.

The perfect place for kids to stretch their creative muscles and experience new and exciting activities each week. Students work with a variety of materials. Projects are inspired by the Museum’s collections and special exhibitions. Students participate in guided explorations and sketching in the galleries, and end the week with a student exhibition and reception.
